Couple held in Ahmedabad after fleeing from police with constable clinging to SUV bonnet

Ahmedabad: The city police have arrested a man and his wife after they attempted to flee from the police during a combing operation. In their attempt to escape, the couple drove off in their SUV with a police constable dangerously hanging onto the vehicle’s bonnet near Tapovan Circle on Sunday. The police have also seized the SUV with the license plate number GJ 01 KQ 2979, which had dark-tinted films on its windows.

The policeman suffered injuries to his legs and hands and narrowly escaped being run over by a dumper when he fell from the bonnet due to the SUV’s high speed.

According to the Chandkheda police station official, the driver attempted to run over the officers when he was signaled to stop during the operation at 11:15 PM on Saturday. Police personnel Nitesh Ramji clung to the bonnet in an attempt to stop the vehicle but was dragged for some distance, resulting in injuries. After falling off, he was almost crushed by a dumper that managed to brake just in time. Another officer, who had gripped the top of the half-open driver’s side window, was also thrown off as the vehicle sped away.

Both the man and his wife, who tried to escape, have been arrested on charges of attempted murder and causing grievous harm to a public servant. The investigation into the incident is ongoing. DeshGujarat
