Gandhinagar: The local traders in Shihori town of Kankrej observed strike protesting the State government’s decision to include Kankrej Taluka in newly formed Vav – Tharad district.

The local traders in Shihori joined by the local Congress MLA said that Palanpur is closer to them and being in Banaskantha district or even joining Patan district suit them, while going to newly declared district headquarters Tharad is difficult for them due to lack of proper transportation and connectivity towards that side.

Similar demand has also come to light in Dhanera taluka where number of locals are vocal against the government’s decision and opine that Palanpur with multiple facilities of education, market, smooth transportation and medical care suit them contrary to Tharad in Vav – Tharad district.

Some protest was also seen in Deodar for same reasons described above. However it is difficult to ascertain whether the protests are organic of political in nature.
