Government Land Worth ₹9.5 Crore Recovered in Bet Dwarka Following Demolition Drive

Bet Dwarka: A major crackdown on illegal encroachments in the Bet Dwarka island’s Balapur area has resulted in the recovery of government land spanning 16,000 square feet, with an estimated market value of ₹9.5 crore. The demolition operation, which is still ongoing, was conducted by the Prant Office of Dwarka in collaboration with the district administration and local police forces.

The drive aimed at clearing unauthorized constructions saw the removal of both commercial and residential units that had been built on government land without proper authorization. Prior to the demolition, notices were issued to 250 encroachers, informing them of the upcoming operation.

The extensive operation, which was carried out with a large team of over 1,000 personnel, involved the demolition of 76 illegal units. To ensure law and order were maintained throughout the operation, the area was cordoned off by local authorities.

9 Mazars demolished at Pirotan island

In a significant move aimed at safeguarding both the environment and national security, the district administration has successfully demolished nine Mazars (shrines) on the ecologically and strategically sensitive Pirotan Island. The operation, carried out with strict adherence to legal protocols, resulted in the recovery of approximately 4,000 square feet of government land.

Pirotan Island, known for its ecological importance and proximity to international maritime borders, has long been a focal point for conservation efforts and security concerns. It is noteworthy that there are five SPMs (Single Point Mooring systems) near Pirotan Island, which supply 60% of the country’s crude oil. The island, which lies in a critical area, has been under increased scrutiny due to unauthorized constructions threatening its fragile ecosystem and strategic importance. The demolition of the illegal structures was a coordinated effort involving the district administration and police.

The demolition drive was initiated for several critical reasons. The site was at risk of becoming a landing point for narcotics, and the encroachments were causing massive damage to marine vegetation, disrupting the local ecosystem. The illegal movement resulting from these encroachments also posed a serious threat to key industries and institutions in the region, including GSFC, Reliance, Nayara Energy, the Air Force Base, and the Navy Base. These factors combined to make it imperative to take swift action to protect both national security and environmental integrity. DeshGujarat
