Archaeological Experience Museum is the first museum of its kind in India, which has been developed by the Union Ministry of Culture in collaboration with the state Directorate of Archaeology and Museums. This museum is connected to the live excavation site through a bridge. Built at an estimated cost of ₹298 crore, this four-storey museum is spread over an area of about 12,500 square meters.
The museum building houses more than 5000 artifacts found during archaeological excavations along with audio-visual films and exhibitions, which reveal the 2500 years of history of Vadnagar.
A permanent shed has been built to provide tourists with an experience of the archaeological finds from the excavations of Vadnagar and other tourism facilities have been developed. The museum also has 9 thematic galleries displaying art, sculptures and the language of the area from different periods.
‘Prerna Sankul’, built at a cost of ₹72 crore, is an initiative to renovate the historic primary school building in Vadnagar. Established in 1888, this school was where Prime Minister Narendra Modi received his primary education. The Archaeological Survey of India has developed this school as a modern educational institution of the future, which has a unique blend of education and moral values through new technology.
Students from all districts of the country come here to study for a week under the study tour. So far, 36 groups of students and teachers from different parts of the country have come here to study, comprising 720 students and 360 teachers. The curriculum taught in this campus has been designed by IIT, Gandhinagar, which includes 9 value-based subjects.
Under the campus development work, heritage conservation and development has been planned in four campuses, in which works like facade restoration, road construction, reuse of buildings, improvement of pedestrian signage and street furniture will be taken up. The development of the campus will prepare a heritage trail, which will provide an opportunity to experience the history of Vadnagar in depth. ‘Prerna Sankul’ will be the focal point of all these trails, where all the heritage trails will end.
The aim of the Sports Complex set up in Vadnagar is to provide state-of-the-art training facilities to the players and help them in their development while improving their performance. Developed at a cost of ₹33.50 crore, the Sports Complex has facilities for various indoor sports. Also, the outdoor sports facilities include an 8-lane 400-metre synthetic athletic track, an astro turf football field, kabaddi, kho-kho and volleyball grounds. In addition, the construction of a hostel is in progress, which will have accommodation for 100 boys and 100 girls.
