Police involve CA to probe Rs. 16 crore financial transactions in Khyati Hospital case

Ahmedabad: Following the arrest of Khyati Multispecialty Hospital director Kartik Patel, authorities are now investigating the origin and usage of Rs 16.64 crore he allegedly acquired through fraudulent claims under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojna (PM-JAY) scheme.

It is learned that, given the complexity of the case, involving multiple financial transactions, the crime branch has involved a chartered accountant (CA) in Patel’s questioning. Officials revealed that, over the past three years, 5,637 patients were examined at 69 camps across villages in the state. Between January 1, 2021, and October 28, 2024, the hospital treated 8,534 patients, including 3,842 under government schemes, and 112 of them died during treatment. Audit reports have highlighted financial discrepancies, with Patel’s bank statements indicating significant withdrawals by the hospital’s directors.

The scam came to light following the deaths of two patients after unnecessary angioplasties. Patel fled to Dubai and spent around Rs 50 lakh on hotels before returning to surrender after exhausting legal options. A total of 33 of Patel’s bank accounts are under forensic investigation. DeshGujarat
