The 2.3 km long ropeway is one of the longest ropeways in the world, connecting the Girnar hills to the sacred Maa Ambaji temple at an altitude of 3,660 feet.

The ropeway was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in October 2020. The Girnar hills are home to several holy temples. These include the Guru Dattatreya Temple, the Gorakhnath Temple and the historic Jain temples. The ropeway provides easy access to the Ambaji Temple, located 5,000 steps above the base, eliminating the hassle of a difficult climb and making it an ideal choice for both pilgrims and tourists. During the monsoon season, visitors enjoy trekking in the mountains of Girnar, where clouds roll in and the scenic beauty of nature is seen. Along with this, Girnar also sees a high influx of pilgrims during Navratri, Janmashtami and Shravan months. Its proximity to Somnath Temple and Gir Lions Sanctuary has made it a popular destination among tourists seeking a complete cultural and natural experience.
