More powers to Home Department; Gujarat Govt Amends Rules of Business 1990
February 07, 2025
Japan K Pathak, Gandhinagar: The Gujarat Government has made amendments to the Gujarat Government Rules of Business, 1990. The amendments, approved under the powers vested by the Constitution of India, were formally published in a notification issued by the General Administration Department.
The amendment introduces changes in the allocation of responsibilities under the Home and Legal Departments. The Home Department has been entrusted with new duties related to public prosecutors. The newly included entries under the Home Department now cover the appointments, remuneration, and functions of Public Prosecutors and Assistant Public Prosecutors, as well as the organization of the Directorate of Public Prosecution and its affiliated functions. Furthermore, the Home Department will also be responsible for appeals against acquittals and applications to enhance sentences.
With this two related entries under the Legal Department have been deleted. These entries, entry 23 and entry 26, no longer form part of the department’s scope of responsibilities, marking a reallocation of duties mentioned under these entries to Home department.
The Gujarat Government Rules of Business (Amendment) Rules, 2025, come into immediate effect, signaling the commencement of these changes. The notification was made by Pankaj Joshi, the Chief Secretary to the Government of Gujarat. DeshGujarat
