Drones to identify helmet rule violators in Surat; licenses of repeat offenders to be suspended

Surat: Wearing a helmet while riding a two-wheeler will be mandatory in the city from February 15. To ensure compliance with the rules, a special campaign will be launched by the Surat Traffic Police. As part of the campaign, the city traffic police department will deploy 300 traffic officers and over 3,000 police personnel at major junctions and roads across the city. E-challans will be issued to those riding without helmets by identifying them with the help of cameras, including drone cameras, and the “One Nation, One Challan” app. The Surat Police Commissioner and the Traffic Department have prepared an action plan for strict enforcement. The police department has urged everyone to avoid stepping out without a helmet from February 15.

The police action plan includes the deployment of over 3,000 police personnel and the use of more than 772 cameras and drones to monitor traffic and identify violators. E-challans will be issued to helmetless two-wheeler riders, and real-time updates on violators will be provided from the control room. Furthermore, traffic police interceptor vans will be deployed for patrolling.

There will also be strict action against repeat offenders, and their driving licences will be suspended. If a rider is caught without a helmet more than five times and has been challaned, a report will be sent to the RTO, and their license may be suspended.

Areas with low helmet compliance will see increased police deployment and drone surveillance to issue more challans. DeshGujarat
