Speeding Skoda car kills woman, injures four in Mithakhali; driver arrested

Ahmedabad: A 40-year-old woman lost her life, and four others were injured when a speeding car hit them near a Jain Derasar in the Mithakhali area this evening.

The incident occurred around 6:30 pm near HCG Hospital at Mithakhali crossroads when a driver, allegedly in an inebriated condition, drove his Skoda car at high speed and hit a woman riding an Activa, along with four other pedestrians. Even after that, the car, with license plate number GJ-27-EF-8554, continued speeding and collided with another vehicle before stopping after crashing into a divider.

The accident caused panic among the crowd as they rushed to assist the victims. The driver, 50-year-old Nilesh Patel from Bareja, who runs a logistics business, was caught by the mob nearly 300 meters from the accident site and was beaten before the police took him into custody. Witnesses alleged that Patel was intoxicated while driving.

B Division police have registered a case in the matter and arrested the driver. Authorities are also investigating whether he was under the influence of alcohol. Additionally, police are examining the role of a black SUV with a “police” board that allegedly arrived at the scene after the crash.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) N H Desai stated that Patel was driving recklessly when he hit Ronak Parikh’s two-wheeler, throwing her off and causing fatal injuries. Three pedestrians and another person were also injured.
