Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Branch has arrested two individuals from Maharashtra for allegedly selling CCTV footage of women undergoing check-ups at a Rajkot hospital. The accused were reportedly distributing the footage via a Telegram channel and charging a substantial amount of money for that. Investigations revealed that the CCTV footage was hacked using the hospital’s IP address. The Cyber Crime Branch will soon bring both accused to Gujarat for further questioning.
According to an officer from the Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Branch, the two accused were arrested from different districts of Maharashtra for obtaining CCTV footage of women receiving medical treatment and distributing it through Telegram links. They were previously involved in selling obscene videos of women through similar means. The case remains under investigation, and further questioning will take place once they are brought to Ahmedabad.
The Cyber Crime Branch launched an inquiry after videos of women undergoing treatment were found circulating on Telegram and a YouTube channel called MeghaMbbs -m5j. The footage was traced back to Payal Maternity Home in Rajkot.
A video circulating on Telegram showed a woman being treated in a gynecological hospital, with an invitation for others to join the group and access similar content. An FIR was registered under Sections 66E and 67 of the Information Technology Act, which pertain to privacy violations and the online dissemination of obscene material.
Earlier on Tuesday, based on mobile data, cybercrime police detained a suspect in Rajkot. However, initial investigations suggested that he may not be directly involved but could provide leads on those who granted CCTV access to the cybercriminals. DeshGujarat
