Congress MLAs protest outside Gujarat Assembly against ‘ill-treatment’ to US deportees

Gandhinagar: Gujarat Congress MLAs staged a protest outside the State Assembly on Wednesday, chaining themselves to symbolize their outrage over the alleged ill-treatment of illegal Indian immigrants deported from the United States. They accused the central government of inaction, condemning reports that deportees were handcuffed and shackled during their return journey.

The protest follows the deportation of illegal Indian immigrants, including Gujaratis, who were sent back on three U.S. Army aircraft. In these three aircraft that arrived this month, 74 Gujarati-origin immigrants were deported from the U.S. Many of them claimed that they were restrained with handcuffs and leg chains throughout the flight.

Protesting this, Congress MLAs, including Amit Chavda, Jignesh Mevani, and others, demonstrated outside the State Assembly on the first day of the Budget session, raising slogans like “Bhartiyon ka yeh apmaan nahi sahega Hindustan” (India will not tolerate this insult to its citizens).
