Villagers oppose merging Meghval village with Dadra & Nagar Haveli

Kaprada: The Gram Sabha, held to gather the villagers’ opinions on including Meghval village in Kaprada within the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli (D.N.H.), saw strong opposition to the proposal. A resolution was passed rejecting the inclusion of Meghval in D.N.H. Along with the villagers and the Sarpanch, residents of Madhuban, Raimal, and Nagar villages also joined the opposition and submitted a memorandum to the Collector, stating that their villages should not be included in D.N.H.

Earlier, the government had decided to include the villages of Madhuban, Raimal, Nagar, and Meghval, located in Kaprada taluka of Valsad district and adjacent to Dadra and Nagar Haveli, within the Union Territory. However, the government later announced that Madhuban, Raimal, and Nagar would not be included, while the plan to merge Meghval with D.N.H. was still under consideration. To seek villagers’ opinions, the Sarpanch organized a Gram Sabha at the Meghval Gram Panchayat office on February 18, 2025, based on a directive from Kaprada Taluka Development Officer (TDO).

During the meeting, a unanimous resolution was passed, highlighting that under Gujarat’s development initiatives, Meghval village has received well-developed infrastructure, including inter-village roads, household water supply, 24-hour electricity, healthcare services, and various government facilities at the Gram Panchayat office. Farmers have also benefited from enhanced agricultural support. Given these developments, the villagers strongly opposed the inclusion of Meghval in D.N.H.

Furthermore, on Monday, village leaders, including the Sarpanch of Meghval, along with leaders from Madhuban, Raimal, and Nagar villages, met the Collector and reaffirmed that these four villages are an integral part of Kaprada taluka and Gujarat. They emphasized that their overall development has been carried out under various Gujarat government schemes, and they firmly reject the proposal to merge with D.N.H. DeshGujarat
