Gujarat govt clears unauthorized structures for Ambaji Shakti Corridor expansion
February 28, 2025
Gandhinagar: Cabinet Minister Rushikesh Patel today informed the state assembly that the administration has removed a total of 79 encroachments (both temporary and permanent) at Ambaji. He also stated that the government is firmly committed to the world-class development of Ambaji Yatra Dham, the heart of the 51 Shaktipeeths of the country.
During the question-and-answer session in the Legislative Assembly today, Patel stated that two T.P. schemes have been implemented so far for the development of Ambaji and the surrounding pilgrimage sites. Town Planning Scheme No. 1 (Ambaji), covering approximately 6.07 hectares around the Ambaji temple, has been in effect since 1983.
Following the implementation of T.P.-1, Town Planning Scheme No. 2 (Ambaji), covering 2.87 hectares, was introduced and has been in effect since 1997. This scheme includes a total of 53 original plots and 74 final plots, he added.
Providing details on encroachments on government land outside TP Scheme-1 and 2 in the “Development Scheme,” Patel stated that unauthorized constructions were carried out on government land in Ambaji Res. No. 8 by private individuals within the Shakti Corridor, which connects Ambaji Temple, Gabbar Dungar Temple, and 51 Shaktipeeths. The encroachments on this land were removed by the Provincial Officer, Danta, under Section 61 of the Land Revenue Code, 1879. A total of 79 encroachments (both temporary and permanent) have been removed.
In this regard, affected individuals filed a special civil petition before the High Court against the removal of encroachments. However, through a common oral order dated 29.01.2025, the High Court did not accept the petitioners’ request to stop the encroachment removal.
Providing details about the Ambaji Yatra Dham Development Project, the Minister stated that an extensive development project worth approximately ₹1191 crore will be undertaken from Ambaji Mata Temple to Gabbar Tekri.
- The development plan, prepared by the Holy Yatra Dham Development Board, will integrate spirituality with modern infrastructure while preserving the surrounding environment.
- A seamless connection will be established between the flame at Gabbar Tekri and the temple’s Vishayantra.
- The development of Chachar Chowk and Gabbar Temple will reflect the rich local culture and history through artistic sculptures and interactive displays, along with provisions for cultural and community programs.
- An eco-friendly walkway with clear signboards will be constructed for the safety and convenience of pilgrims walking from the temple premises to Gabbar Tekri, with resting spots provided along the way.
- As part of the development of Divya Darshani Chowk, a beautifully designed public recreation area will be developed with seating arrangements, greenery, and information kiosks. Spaces for local vendors will also be ensured.
- Sati Sarovar and Sati Ghat will be developed with landscaped gardens and eco-friendly facilities for religious ceremonies.
Minister added that the completion of this project will not only boost Gujarat’s tourism but also enhance the significance of Ambaji as a spiritual destination for future generations.
