Ahmedabad – Dholera Expressway nears completion; set to open this year; Here’s the latest update

Ahmedabad: The construction of the 109-kilometer expressway linking Ahmedabad with the smart city of Dholera is progressing rapidly, with over 91% of the work reportedly complete. Expected to become operational this year, the Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway, built at a cost of ₹4,373 crore, will reduce travel time between the two cities to just 40 to 45 minutes.

The expressway will connect the Sardar Patel Ring Road in Ahmedabad with India’s first Greenfield Smart City. Many YouTube vloggers have visited the site to track its progress. Recently, RS Live shared updates on the construction phases.

Starting from Ahmedabad, construction work on the diamond interchange at the SP Ring Road is complete, with both sides now open for traffic. In the last update in November last year, one side was still closed. The final leg of work at the interchange, such as plantation and beautification, is ongoing, with only lane marking and streetlight installation remaining.

A 5-kilometer stretch from the SP Ring Road interchange on this expressway is ready. Moving toward Dholera, the road alignment work is complete, and the first layer of blacktopping is done, with lane marking work pending. Roadside plantation and the installation of side crash barriers are either completed or ongoing in some sections.

After the initial 4-5 kilometers, work is underway on a major railway overbridge, which will be around 1.5 kilometers long. The construction of ramps on both sides of the bridge is complete, and the pillars for the steel bridge are ready. Work to launch the steel and concrete girders is ongoing. This elevated section will span approximately 700 meters.

As you cross the railway overbridge, the expressway is ready, with side crash barriers installed and plantation growing along the median and roadside areas. Kilometer signboards have also been installed on the protective barriers, indicating the distance traveled.

Notably, around 9 kilometers from the entry point of the expressway, a toll plaza has been constructed and is ready. Interestingly, this toll plaza will be unmanned and fully automatic.

One of the most important junctions on the expressway is the Pipli Interchange, which will connect to Dholera International Airport, followed by another junction that links to Dholera Smart City.

The Pipli Interchange is one of the largest on this route, providing access to Dholera International Airport. Another 10-kilometer road from this interchange to the airport is under construction and is being built by NHAI.

Following this, the Ambli Interchange is fully ready, with only lane marking and plantation work ongoing. Meanwhile, streetlights, signage, and crash barriers have already been installed.

This 109-kilometer expressway ends at the Adhelai Interchange for travelers from Ahmedabad and serves as the starting point for those coming from Bhavnagar. This interchange is ready, with vehicles already using the road. It also connects the expressway to the old highway currently used to travel from Ahmedabad to Dholera and further to Bhavnagar, which is only 25 kilometers away.
