BJP rule in Borsad APMC for the 1st time; chairman, vice chairman elected unopposed

Anand: For the first time in history, the BJP-backed farmer panel has secured victory in the Borsad APMC (Agricultural Produce Market Committee) elections, gaining control of the body. Ashok Mahida has been elected unopposed as Chairman, while Yogesh Patel has also been elected unopposed as Vice Chairman. Both leaders will officially assume charge today.

In Borsad APMC, 10 vacant farmer seats saw a contest between the Congress-backed Sahkar Panel and the BJP’s Khedut Vikas Panel, which was formed for the first time. While 10 candidates from the Congress-backed panel filed their nominations, the BJP also fielded 10 candidates, leading to a fierce battle between 20 contenders from both parties. However, in the election results, the entire Congress panel, including veteran leader and former MLA Rajendrasinh Parmar and former APMC chairman Natwarsinh Mahida, faced defeat.

In the elections held today for the posts of Chairman and Vice Chairman, the BJP nominated Ashok Mahida and Yogesh Patel. As no candidates were fielded by the opposition, the election officer declared both of them elected unopposed. With this, the BJP has established control over Borsad APMC for the first time.
