Porbandar: A man originally from Porbandar and currently living in Mozambique was fired upon and abducted three days ago but has not been released yet. His brother, who resides in Porbandar, has appealed to higher authorities, including the Ministry of External Affairs, demanding his immediate release.
Jai Soneji from Porbandar has submitted a representation to senior officials, including the Ministry of External Affairs, the Collector, SP, MP, and MLA, regarding his brother, Vinay Sohanbhai Soneji (36), who has been living in Maputo, Mozambique, and running a general store there for the past 16 years. On March 3, between 8:00 and 10:00 PM, while closing his shop, Gena Gena, along with two Gujarati staff members and a guard, armed assailants in a car suddenly opened fire and attacked him. Terrified, Vinay fell to the ground before the attackers abducted him and fled in their vehicle. The entire incident was captured on the store’s CCTV camera.
Shortly after the kidnapping, the assailants called and demanded 30 lakh in local currency for Vinay’s release. The staff requested to speak to Vinay, but the kidnappers assured them they could talk to him in half an hour. However, three days have passed, and there has been no further contact or release. A complaint has been lodged with the local police, but Vinay’s family remains deeply worried and has approached the authorities for his safe and swift release.
