Ahmedabad: Three individuals were arrested on Monday in connection with the death of Gram Rakshak Dal (GRD) jawan Jagdish Shamji, who was fatally hit by a truck near a bypass intersection in Sanand on March 8.
Ahmedabad rural police identified the accused as Shaitansinh Ravat (22) and Mangalsinh Ravat (27) from Rajsamand, Rajasthan, and Shankarsinh Chauhan (32) from Beawar, who was driving the truck.
The arrest followed a complaint by Shamji’s colleague, Bhairam Makwana. According to the complaint, around 1:45 p.m., a truck (GJ-12-CT-2197) ignored Shamji’s stop signal and entered Sanand town. Shamji and Makwana pursued the vehicle on their bikes, but the driver allegedly refused to stop and eventually struck Shamji’s bike, causing fatal injuries before fleeing.
Police said the driver had been attempting to leave the district since the incident, but details shared by Ahmedabad rural police helped GRD personnel apprehend him near the Sanand bus stop on Monday. The accused have been booked under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 103(1), Section 121(2), and other provisions related to rash driving and mischief, along with the Motor Vehicles Act.
