AMC plans 40m-wide road to link Acher Road with Sabarmati barrage-cum-bridge
March 12, 2025
Ahmedabad: The construction of a barrage-cum-bridge to improve connectivity along the Sabarmati, linking the powerhouse area to Sadar Bazaar, is ongoing. As part of the project, the city civic body has proposed a 40-meter-wide road connecting the bridge to Acher Road, utilizing open land at the powerhouse without affecting existing properties.
The new road will provide direct access from the Chimanlal Patel Bridge metro station to the six-lane barrage-cum-bridge, a ₹300 crore project designed to ease traffic congestion and store clean water for up to 15 days. The bridge will integrate with the city’s road network, forming a four-way junction connecting key locations such as Motera Stadium and Jawahar Chowk.
Once the project is completed, residents of western Ahmedabad will no longer need to travel via Shahibaug Dafnala to reach the airport. Additionally, a 2 to 2.5-meter-wide pedestrian footpath will be built beneath the bridge, ensuring smooth connectivity along both sides of the Sabarmati Riverfront.
The proposal for the new road will be presented to the standing committee on March 13. DeshGujarat
