AMC Mulls Rs 1,000 Crore Green Bond to Fund Urban Greening
March 04, 2026
Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has approved an Urban Greening Policy to address the challenges of global warming and climate change. As part of efforts to significantly increase the city’s green cover, the civic body is planning to issue a green bond worth Rs 1,000 crore, the proposal for which will soon be placed before the Standing Committee for approval. Officials said the policy will help advance the vision of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070.
Under the new policy, it will be mandatory to reserve at least 5% of the total area in every new Town Planning (TP) scheme for green cover. Of this, 1% of the area must be developed as an urban forest using the Miyawaki method.
According to the AMC, workshops on kitchen gardening, waste management and related topics will be organised to encourage public participation. To ensure effective implementation and monitoring of the policy, the AMC will set up an Urban Greening Advisory Committee comprising urban planners, environmental experts, and representatives from CREDAI and the Chamber of Commerce.
In addition, ward-level committees will be formed to ensure quick resolution of local issues. The civic body will also promote large-scale plantation on footpaths and open plots, while encouraging CSR and CER initiatives to support the city’s greening efforts. DeshGujarat
