Namaz on public road in Sanand; locals approach authorities

Sanand: A controversy has erupted over the offering of Namaz on a public road every Friday outside the Jama Masjid located in Tapal Chowk area of the city. The local traders have now approached the authorities and presented a memorandum seeking action against the inconvenience.
The three-story mosque is situated at Tapal Chowk on Bus Station Road, which is the main market area of Sanand. Due to the large gathering for Friday Namaz, the main market road remains blocked for over two hours. This gathering on the public roads causes inconvenience to traders, local residents, and commuters. Frustrated by the recurring issue, a local Hindu organization has submitted a memorandum to the local administration and police, urging them to resolve the matter. They have also warned that if no action is taken, they will organize a Hanuman Chalisa recitation during Friday Namaz.
Speaking to the media, a trader stated, “Every Friday, a large number of people gather, blocking the road on both sides. No one can pass through. We had requested them to offer Namaz inside the mosque, but they did not comply.”
A local resident added, “The mosque has existed for a long time, and there has always been communal harmony between Hindus and Muslims. However, now people from other villages and places come here, causing heavy traffic congestion. They park their vehicles in an unorganized manner with no accountability. That’s why we decided to submit the memorandum. We have no issue if Namaz is offered inside the mosque.”
Local leader and former BJP chief of Sanand city, Kamlesh Vyas, told the media, “Earlier, around 100-200 people used to gather, but now the number has increased to 1,000-1,500. Last week alone, more than 1,500 people gathered. Naturally, people are concerned about where such a large number is coming from. They block the public road and even set up tents. Traders are facing losses, especially during the peak business season, as there is no space for pedestrians, let alone vehicles.”
Meanwhile, a leader from the Muslim community attempted to justify the situation, stating, “When the number of worshippers exceeds our mosque’s capacity, they stand on the road. However, this only happens six times a year—on four Fridays of Ramadan and two Eid prayers.”
On the other hand, Sanand Mamlatdar, C.L. Sutariya, acknowledged the issue and stated, “Some traffic-related problems have emerged. Based on the memorandum, I have discussed the matter with the Police Inspector, and necessary action will be taken as per the law.” DeshGujarat
