March 12, 2025
Vadodara: A 45-minute power outage from the electricity supply to the railways on Wednesday evening disrupted train services in the Vadodara Railway Division, affecting 15 trains. This is the first such incident of a power supply disruption in the Vadodara Railway Division since 2012. The disruption was due to grid issue that had affected entire South Gujarat region for a few hours.
The sudden power cut, which occurred on Wednesday evening, caused chaos and prompted railway officials to investigate the cause. It was later revealed that the disruption was due to a halt in the electricity supply from the Gujarat Electricity Board (GEB).
The blackout impacted several trains, including the Mumbai-Delhi Rajdhani Express, which was delayed by approximately 15 minutes, and the Tirunelveli-Jamnagar Express, which was delayed by about 55 minutes. The Ekta Nagar-Nizamuddin Holi special train, carrying a large number of passengers heading home for the festival, was also delayed by 55 minutes.
To prevent overcrowding and potential incidents like those seen in Delhi, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Jitendra Singh, along with Senior DCM Manjumina and other officials, were present at platform number 6, where the Ekta Nagar-Nizamuddin train was scheduled to depart.
In total, 15 trains were affected, experiencing delays ranging from 15 to 45 minutes. The power supply was restored in the evening, allowing train services to resume. However, the sudden change in platform assignments due to the power outage caused confusion among passengers.
The power disruption also affected some railway stations in the adjacent Mumbai Division. Senior officials rushed to the railway station following the incident.
