Villagers beat up 4 foreign students of Parul University for smoking near dargah

Vadodara: Four foreign students of Parul University were brutally assaulted by locals in Limda village on the evening of Dhuleti after they were found smoking cigarettes while wearing slippers near a dargah (religious site).

According to reports, around ten villagers, armed with bats, sticks, and blunt objects, confronted and assaulted the students, who were unable to understand the Gujarati language. One student sustained serious injuries and collapsed on the spot, while the others suffered minor injuries. All the injured students are undergoing treatment at Parul Sevashram Hospital. Following a viral video of the incident, Waghodia police registered a case against ten attackers and arrested seven individuals.

As per the complaint filed at Waghodia police station, the victims—all hostel residents of Parul University in Waghodia—were identified as Sufay Kangwan Ruttan (Thailand), a second-year BCA student; Odwa Andrew Abbas Andre Watari (South Sudan), a first-year Petroleum Engineering student; Tange Evenilson Thomal (Mozambique), a first-year Petroleum Engineering student; and Mohammed Alikhalif Khalif Mohammed (UK), a first-year Cardiology student.

The students had reportedly visited a lake in Limda village for a walk when they were spotted smoking cigarettes near a dargah. Local youths objected to their actions, but the students were unable to understand Gujarati, leading to a confrontation. The attackers used sticks, bats, and blunt objects and also threw stones at them.

A video of the attack went viral, prompting immediate police action. Upon learning of the incident, Parul University officials were alarmed and rescued the students, shifting them to Parul Sevashram Hospital. PSI A.J. Patel of Waghodia Police Station arrived at the hospital with his team.

Based on the viral footage, police identified ten attackers, arrested seven suspects, and released two minors. The complaint was filed by Ashusinh alias Ashok Nadesinh Rajput, a staff member at Parul University. Further investigations are underway. DeshGujarat
