Rajkot: The newly appointed President of Dhoraji Municipality, Sangeetaben Barot, has resigned from her post, citing personal reasons. Barot submitted her resignation to Rajkot District Collector Prabhav Joshi just 13 days after taking over as president. Her sudden decision on Tuesday has fueled speculation.
Barot has been in the headlines ever since her candidature was announced from Ward No. 9. She first made news when a video allegedly showing her smoking hookah and holding a liquor bottle went viral on social media during the election campaign. Later, after the BJP came to power in Dhoraji Municipality, she was appointed as the municipal president. Barot again drew attention by mistakenly referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the Chief Minister of Gujarat during a media interaction.
Recently, elections were held for the president and vice president of five municipalities in Rajkot district, with Barot being named the president of Dhoraji Municipality. However, reports suggest that her appointment faced internal opposition. On Tuesday, she submitted her resignation to the district collector, citing personal reasons.
After resigning, Barot told the media, “I have resigned at my own discretion, and no one has asked me to do so. I am with the party, and if there is any work related to the municipality, I will continue to participate. I resigned due to personal reasons and because the workload at the municipality was beyond my capacity. The party still supports me.”
