Thar driver booked for trying to run over cop in Ahmedabad in viral video

Ahmedabad: Chaos erupted near Delhi Darwaza on Tuesday when the driver of a Mahindra Thar SUV dangerously evaded police attempts to stop him. A video of the incident went viral, leading to the arrest and booking of the accused.

The red Mahindra Thar had entered a no-vehicle zone, prompting police intervention. Instead of stopping, the driver accelerated, nearly running over an officer who narrowly escaped injury. The video shows the SUV speeding through congested streets, crashing into a rickshaw and several other vehicles. Eyewitnesses reported that the driver’s reckless and high-speed maneuvering caused panic among pedestrians and motorists. Police confirmed that he also hit multiple vehicles in the Lal Darwaza area.

Ahmedabad West Traffic Division teams quickly traced the vehicle and identified its owner as Kishore Kumar Meruji Prajapati from Deesa. He had leased the vehicle to Shubham Mohan Gupta of Nildeep Apartment, Gurukul Road, Ahmedabad, on July 15, 2024. However, further investigation revealed that Gupta had later handed over the vehicle to his friend, Krish Bherulal Sarai, a resident of Shribalaji Agora Residency, Gandhinagar, who was driving at the time of the incident.

Based on this evidence, “L” Traffic Police Station has registered a case against the accused under BNS Section 181 and Motor Vehicles Act Sections 177, 184, and 134(b).
