BJP Corporator Enters Catchpit, VMC Issues Notice to Engineer

Vadodara: A notice has been issued to the Deputy Executive Engineer after a BJP corporator entered a rainwater catchpit in the presence of municipal staff to inspect a water leakage at Sama Jadhav Park Char Rasta.

The area around Jadhav Park Char Rasta was facing low water pressure issues. Ward No. 2 Corporator Bhanjibhai Patel had informed the authorities about this problem. Following this, municipal staff began searching for the leakage this morning. They inspected a rainwater catchpit near Jadhav Park Char Rasta, from which water was flowing out with full force.

Upon hearing the sound of water flowing, the corporator had the catchpit opened. Since there was no drainage water inside, he asked a person to go down and check. Upon inspection, it was found that two lines, 8 and 12, were leaking. Subsequently, Assistant Engineer Ranjit Vanzara ordered a JCB machine from the contractor and started the repair work.

Later, when Corporator Bhanjibhai was informed, he arrived at the site. He went down into the approximately four-foot deep catchpit to inspect the leakage. Vanzara tried to stop him two or three times, but the corporator insisted on seeing for himself. He also had Vanzara record a video of him in the catchpit on his mobile phone.

Taking the incident seriously, senior corporation officials issued a notice to Yogesh Vasava, the Deputy Executive Engineer of the North Zone Water Supply Distribution Department. This was because the responsibility for overseeing the work lay with Yogesh Vasava, and the corporator’s entry into the catchpit created an embarrassing situation for the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC). An explanation has been sought from Vasava regarding who would be responsible if something had happened to the corporator. DeshGujarat
