Solar trees installed at Jamnagar Ranmal Lake

Jamnagar: The Jamnagar Municipal Corporation (JMC) has installed four solar trees in the parking lot at Ranmal Lake under a ₹1.40 crore project. These installations will generate 60 kilowatts of electricity per month, helping the municipal administration significantly reduce electricity bills. In the coming days, the administration also plans to install two more solar trees and a solar hut in the amusement park.

Over the past two years, the Power Department of the corporation has installed solar panels on the main administration building and the fire brigade building, generating 220 kilowatts of electricity. Additionally, 270 kilowatts of solar power is being produced from panels installed on the roof of the large sump at the pump house. As a result, the municipal administration is currently saving ₹2 lakh per month on electricity costs.

To promote solar energy awareness, JMC has now installed solar trees at public spaces like amusement parks and Ranmal Lake to encourage visitors to generate electricity through solar power and even sell it. The administration expects to generate 95 kilowatts of electricity per month from these installations.

According to a civic body officer, the state government is planning to establish a massive solar farm capable of generating 400 megawatts of electricity to further reduce energy expenses. To support this initiative, JMC has allocated ₹20.70 crore in its budget as a contribution to Hirajya for the solar project. This investment will ensure that 10 megawatts of power generation is credited to JMC’s account, eventually leading to a zero electricity bill for the corporation. The plan was highlighted in the municipal budget, as per officials. DeshGujarat
