Ahmedabad: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Gujarat on Wednesday booked an unarmed police constable and his associate for accepting a ₹2 lakh bribe in Ahmedabad.
The accused, Rajnish Haribhai Shrimali, a Class-3 police constable stationed at Chandkheda Police Station, and his accomplice, Mitul alias Montu Rajubhai Gohil, allegedly demanded ₹5.3 lakh from the complainant, who was declared wanted in a prohibition case. The bribe was sought in exchange for not arresting the complainant or proceeding with the case.
Acting on the complaint, the ACB set up a trap in an open space near Kanha Restaurant, New C.G. Road Crossroads, Chandkheda. As per the plan, accused Mitul Gohil accepted ₹2 lakh from the complainant on behalf of police constable Rajnish Shrimali. The ACB team apprehended Gohil on the spot, while Shrimali managed to flee upon suspecting the operation.
The entire bribe amount of ₹2 lakh was recovered, and both accused were booked for involvement in the crime. Further investigations are underway. DeshGujarat
