AMC to set up CNG-fired dog crematorium at Danilimda

Ahmedabad: The Cattle Nuisance Control Department (CNCD) of the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has decided to establish a gas-fired crematorium for deceased dogs in Danilimda. The CNCD has invited bids for the supply and installation of a gas-fired domestic animal cremator. The crematorium will cater to animals weighing up to 80 kg, enabling the simultaneous cremation of two dogs.

Powered by CNG energy, the machinery is estimated to cost around ₹30 lakh and includes three years of operations and maintenance. Civil work for the shed is also part of the project.

Additionally, a facility similar to a human dead body ambulance van will be available to transport deceased pets, offering cremation services to pet owners at concessional rates.

The forest and zoo departments already operate similar setups. The last date to submit bids is May 5, 2025, and AMC aims to install the system within three months.

According to AMC, the city has around 50,000 pet dogs, of which 5,500 are currently registered with the civic body. The AMC already operates a sick dog shelter with a capacity of daily keeping of 125 dogs at Danilimda.

Currently, the solid waste management department handles the disposal of dead animals, with an average of 30 cases reported daily. These animals are presently buried at a designated site in Pirana. Following this, the civic body is also considering a CNG-based crematorium for large animals at Bakrol. DeshGujarat
