AUDA to Relocate Entire Lake in Godhavi Village for Road Project

Ahmedabad: In a one-of-a-kind move, an entire lake in Godhavi village will be relocated to facilitate the construction of a crucial 45-metre-wide road connecting to the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC).

This 45-meter-wide Shela-Sanand connector road, part of the long-term development plan of the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA), was initially designed to curve around Mama Talavadi (a local lake), but will now pass directly through it due to a conflict with an existing DFC culvert.

AUDA officials explained that the culvert built in Godhavi was not compatible with the original road alignment, prompting the change. The lake, covering 4,000 sq m, will be shifted to a new location of equivalent size. Approved in a board meeting on April 9, the revised road plan passes through Godhavi, Nidhard, and Sanand, covering areas under TP Schemes, including Shela (TP-1), Ghuma (TP-3), and Nidhard (TP-10). The realignment will also require changes in land use in Godhavi’s TP Scheme 437, with certain plots reverting to agricultural zoning and others being newly designated for development. The AUDA chairman has been authorized to implement and oversee these adjustments. DeshGujarat
