Ahmedabad: The Food Department of Health Division of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), in a major crackdown against food business establishments with unhygienic conditions and substandard food, has sealed five units across the city, including Jalaram Parotha House in Paldi.

As per the official statement, from March 29 to April 12, 2025, the AMC Food Department collected 248 suspected food samples from various food units, including dairy products, sweets, bakery items, beverages, and more. These samples have been sent to the Public Health Laboratory for analysis to ensure they meet safety standards.

During the above period, a total of 885 units were inspected in accordance with the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSSA) 2006. Notices were issued to 262 establishments.

During these inspections, an estimated 540 kg of substandard food was destroyed. The civic body also collected administrative charges worth ₹3.84 lakh.

Additionally, 1,847 licenses/registrations were issued during this period, generating a total revenue of ₹13.53 lakh in licensing/registration fees. The AMC also conducted 217 TPC tests.

The inspections revealed unhygienic conditions at several establishments, prompting immediate actions, including the sealing of the following businesses:

  • Shivshambhu Dairy Products, Naroda Road, Ahmedabad (March 29)

  • Jalaram Parotha House, Paldi, Ahmedabad (March 31) – due to complaints of insects in food

  • Dehl Beverages LLP, Kubernagar, Ahmedabad (April 2)

  • Balaji Gruh Udyog, Mani Nagar, Ahmedabad (April 4) – due to poor hygiene of workers

  • Fresh Chicken Shop, Narayanpura, Ahmedabad (April 11) – due to unhygienic conditions and lack of required food safety certification

Looking ahead, the AMC Food Department will continue its stringent inspections across various food units dealing with ice cream, lassi, fruit juices, soft drinks, sweets, and other food-related businesses. They will also be conducting checks at hotels and restaurants throughout the city. Any establishment found operating without a proper license or registration will face severe penalties, including sealing or closure, said the civic body note.  DeshGujarat
