Taxi driver killed in alleged lynching in Juhapura after his car hit a two-wheeler

Ahmedabad: A taxi driver died after allegedly being attacked by a mob in Juhapura following a string of road accidents late Tuesday night.

The deceased, Kaushik Chauhan, was driving a Taxi passing Artiga car in uncontrolled and speedy manner. CCTV footage shows, Chauhan’s car hit a two-wheeler near Ayesha Mosque in Juhapura. A two-wheeler was coming from a wrong side on narrow road which was largely occupied by parked vehicles.  A two-wheeler rider stopped his two-wheeler, seeing speedy car coming towards him.  A person on two-wheeler fell down after his vehicle was hit by Chauhan’s car. After this hit, number of locals gathered around the car. Apparently feared by a mob, Chauhan drove the car in further overspeeding. Some locals in Juhapura were seen hanging on the car, while some fifty around were chasing him. Chauhan couldn’t go beyond  a street in Azim Park.

It is beleived that angry locals who chased Chauhan’s car caught him and assaulted, leaving him dead. Head injury marks are found on the head of the victim according to police. The deadbody was found outside the car in front of bonnet of car.

DCP Zone-7 Shivam Verma said -“The postmortem will confirm the cause of death.” The body has been sent to Sola Civil Hospital for autopsy. The crime branch is reviewing CCTV footage to identify those involved.

Chauhan, a resident of Isanpur, had empty glasses and snack packets in his vehicle, though no alcohol was found. Authorities are recording statements from those affected by the crashes. DeshGujarat
