Surat businessman imports India’s first Tesla Cybertruck from Dubai; sparks social media buzz

Surat: Social media has been abuzz for the past two days with viral photos and videos of the Tesla Cybertruck, a vehicle not yet launched in India. The Cybertruck was first spotted on the outskirts of Mumbai, being transported on a flatbed truck, and was later seen driving through Surat, the diamond city. It has now come to light that Surat-based businessman and car enthusiast Loveji Badshah imported the vehicle from Dubai.

Badshah specially brought in the Tesla Cybertruck, making him the first known individual in India to import the high-end electric vehicle. The Cybertruck, worth approximately ₹51 lakh, was initially seen with Dubai registration plates, further fuelling curiosity and public interest. The vehicle has now reached Surat via Mumbai, and several videos of it on Surat roads have gone viral on social media.

Bringing the Cybertruck to India, where Tesla has not yet officially launched even its basic models, is being hailed as a bold move. This sighting follows the recent appearance of a heavily camouflaged 2025 Model Y prototype that was spotted testing on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway — a strong indicator that Tesla’s entry into the Indian electric vehicle market is imminent. While the Elon Musk-led company is preparing to introduce the Model Y and Model 3 in India, the presence of the ultra-durable and uniquely designed Cybertruck is already capturing attention.

The Tesla Cybertruck made its global debut in December 2023 and is available in three powertrain configurations: single, dual, and tri-motor variants.

The tri-motor version stands out with its exceptional performance, accelerating from 0 to 100 kmph in under three seconds and offering a claimed range of over 805 km. It also boasts a towing capacity of up to 14,000 pounds (approximately 6,350 kg). The dual-motor all-wheel-drive version provides a range of 563 km on a single charge. DeshGujarat
