Gandhinagar: To address the difficulties faced by elderly pensioners in commuting for life certificate verification, the Gujarat government has simplified the process by introducing doorstep services.

Currently, pensioners must visit designated offices or banks to verify their survival, which poses challenges for many elderly or physically disabled individuals. To resolve this, the state government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Postal Department, enabling pensioners to complete life certificate verification free of cost at their doorstep.

The service will be offered through India Post and India Post Payments Bank (IPPB), allowing officials to visit pensioners’ homes to complete biometric verification and issue a Digital Life Certificate. This move comes as a response to long-standing representations by pensioners and is expected to benefit over five lakh individuals across the state.

The government has clarified that this is an additional option—existing methods for life certificate verification will remain operational.

How will the process work?

Pensioners can request a visit from the IPPB team or approach their local postal team. Using mobile software, officials will collect biometric data such as Aadhaar number, PPO number, bank account details, and mobile number. Once authenticated, a digital life certificate will be generated within minutes and shared with the relevant pension office.

Pensioners from Gujarat residing in other states can also avail themselves of this service by contacting the nearest post office or postman. DeshGujarat
