Rottweiler mauls infant: AMC may mandate muzzles for pet dogs
May 14, 2025
Ahmedabad: Following the tragic incident where a pet Rottweiler mauled an infant child to death in the Hathijan area, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is considering making muzzles mandatory for all pet dogs when they are out for walks or in public spaces.
As per a news report, an AMC official stated that pet owners are responsible for ensuring their dogs do not pose a threat to others. Dogs should not be allowed to roam freely where they could cause harm, and they should be kept away from crowded areas. In the Hathijan incident, the dog was taken for a walk in a residential complex where children were playing. To prevent similar incidents, AMC is considering guidelines, including advising against taking dogs to public events or crowded locations. Additionally, pet owners may soon be required to muzzle their dogs when taking them out. A public notice on these measures will be issued shortly.
It is noteworthy that the civic body had made pet dog registrations mandatory from January 1. The registration process requires owners to upload photos of where the dog is housed. DeshGujarat
