Six New Check Dams Built for Rs. 18 Crore on Meshvo, Khari Rivers Inaugurated

Dahegam: Water Resources Minister Kunwarjibhai Bavaliya inaugurated six newly constructed check dams near Dharisana village in Dahegam. During the visit, the Minister also inspected the newly built check dam on the Khari River, constructed at a cost of ₹2.33 crore.

To ensure adequate irrigation water supply to villages in Dahegam and Gandhinagar talukas, the state government has constructed six check dams on the Meshwo and Khari rivers at a total cost of ₹18.07 crore. These check dams will store approximately 41.89 million cubic feet (MCFT) of water, benefiting more than 350 hectares of farmland across over 30 nearby villages.

Minister Bavaliya said the government is committed to providing drinking and irrigation water to every corner of Gujarat. He added that special focus is on supplying irrigation water through check dams in areas facing water scarcity during summers.

He further noted that 14 check dams have been constructed on the Sabarmati River in Gandhinagar district. Four new check dams have been built on the Vatrak River to provide irrigation water to 10 surrounding villages.

On the Meshwo River, where one check dam already exists, two new ones were inaugurated, and two more are under construction. Plans are also in place to build four additional check dams on this river.

Similarly, along with three existing check dams on the Khari River, four new ones were inaugurated, with three more planned for the near future.

Once completed, these projects will benefit over 550 hectares of farmland in 90 to 95 villages across Gandhinagar and Dahegam talukas, the Minister added. DeshGujarat
