AMC blacklists contractor after auto falls into pit at Thaltej
May 19, 2025
Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has blacklisted Jay Shakti Corporation for one year after an auto-rickshaw fell into an unbarricaded pit in Thaltej. The contractor had been carrying out water leakage repair work in the area without following safety norms, particularly failing to install proper barricading.
On December 27, 2024, Jay Shakti Corporation carried out repair work at Rohit Vas in Shilaj village. However, the excavation was done without proper barricading, violating safety norms. As a result, an auto-rickshaw fell into the open pit the following day, on December 28. Following this incident, citing serious negligence, the civic body has debarred the contractor from participating in municipal works for one year.
The decision has sparked debate, with many questioning why only a blacklisting was issued instead of a stricter penalty, especially as multiple excavation sites remain open across the city ahead of the monsoon. DeshGujarat
