Heavy rain likely in some districts of Gujarat during next 7 days: IMD forecast

Surat: The India Meteorological Department (IMD), in its latest forecast, has stated that light to moderate rain is likely to occur in most districts of Gujarat over the next seven days, till May 26. However, some districts are likely to witness heavy rain during this period.

According to the latest IMD bulletin, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are very likely at isolated places in the districts of North Gujarat, namely Ahmedabad, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Kheda, Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, and Mahisagar; in all districts of South Gujarat, including Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi, and in Daman and Dadra Nagar Haveli; and in the Saurashtra region, namely Surendranagar, Botad, Jamnagar, Rajkot, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath, Morbi, and Diu till 8:30 am on May 21.

However, heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places in the Saurashtra districts of Rajkot, Junagadh, and Amreli during this period.

On May 21, light to moderate rain is expected in Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Kheda, Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi, and in Daman, Dadra Nagar Haveli, Rajkot, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath, and Diu.

Thereafter, from May 22 onwards, all districts of the state are likely to witness light to moderate rain and thundershowers at isolated places till May 26, which is the validity period of this forecast.

According to the IMD, heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places in the South Gujarat districts of Chhota Udepur, Narmada, and Bharuch on May 22.

On May 23, heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in South Gujarat districts including Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi, and in Daman and Dadra Nagar Haveli; and in the Saurashtra districts of Amreli and Bhavnagar.

On May 24, isolated heavy rainfall is expected in South Gujarat districts such as Surat, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi, and in Daman and Dadra Nagar Haveli; as well as in Saurashtra districts including Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath, and Diu.

Meanwhile, synoptic conditions indicate a shift in weather patterns over western India. An upper air cyclonic circulation currently lies over northeast Rajasthan and adjoining south Haryana at 0.9 km above mean sea level.

In addition, another cyclonic circulation is likely to form over the east-central Arabian Sea off the Karnataka coast around May 21. Under its influence, a low-pressure area may form over the same region by May 22 and could move northwards and intensify further.
