Blackout in Ahmedabad, other mock drills scheduled on May 29 postponed

Ahmedabad: The district administration has postponed the Civil Defence Exercise “Operation Shield”, which was planned to be held across Ahmedabad on May 29th, due to administrative reasons. The new dates for the exercise will be announced subsequently, an official statement said.

Earlier, it was announced that after the success of Operation Sindoor, a Civil Defence exercise would be organized on 29th May under ‘Operation Shield’, with the aim of training more and more citizens across the country in Civil Defence.

As per the original plan, six different types of activities were to be practiced at six different locations from 5 PM. Exercises such as silent recall and volunteer mobilization, air raid simulation, communication system activation, blackout protocols, blood donation, and evacuation drills were scheduled to be performed as part of the mock drill.

In Ahmedabad city, a General Awareness Exercise at Lal Darwaza, Air Raid Warning at Kankaria Lake Gate No. 01, Activation of N.E. Line at the Civil Defence Office, Blackout at Khadia (at 7:45 PM), and a Blood Donation Exercise in the Bapunagar area were planned. Apart from this, similar drills were to be conducted at Viramgam in Ahmedabad Rural.

The Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, had instructed all districts in states adjacent to the western border of the country and Union Territories to organize Operation Shield to enhance preparedness for Civil Defence against potential attacks by enemy nations.

Under this directive, a civil defence mock drill was planned in Gujarat. In a meeting chaired by District Collector Sujit Kumar, the planning and preparations for civil defence training in Ahmedabad city and district were discussed earlier today. District Development Officer Shri Videh Khare and District Superintendent of Police Om Prakash Jat, along with other senior officials, participated in the meeting.

District Collector Sujit Kumar reviewed the planning and implementation of the Civil Defence Exercise through a virtual conference with the District Police Chief and District Administration officials and urged maximum citizen participation in the exercise. DeshGujarat
