Free e-KYC at Home for Gujarat Ration Card Holders via Post Offices
June 03, 2025
Ahmedabad: The Government of Gujarat has made the e-KYC process mandatory for ration card holders to ensure their continued eligibility for subsidized food grains. Under this directive, all ration card holders must complete the e-KYC process by 30 June 2025 to continue receiving rations. This initiative aims to make the distribution of food grains more transparent and efficient in the state. The Postal Department is now playing a crucial role in this effort.
Postmaster General of the North Gujarat Region, Ahmedabad, Krishna Kumar Yadav, stated that under a significant agreement between the Department of Posts, Government of India, and the Department of Food and Civil Supplies, Government of Gujarat, the Postal Department is providing e-KYC facilities to ration card holders at their homes free of charge. So far, the Postal Department has completed the e-KYC process for more than two lakh ration card holders at their residences. This scheme particularly benefits NFSA ration card holders. The service is being provided through more than 8,800 post offices across rural and urban areas of Gujarat. To expedite the completion of e-KYC for all ration card holders, postal workers are offering services by visiting beneficiaries’ homes and, in coordination with the District Supply Officer, are also providing e-KYC services at ration shops and community camps.
Postmaster General Krishna Kumar Yadav further mentioned that the Department of Posts is also facilitating the updating of mobile numbers in Aadhaar from home through postmen and rural postal workers. If a ration card holder’s mobile number is not updated in Aadhaar, the Department of Posts will first update their mobile number through Aadhaar Seva and subsequently complete the e-KYC for that ration card holder. If postal workers are unavailable in the field, ration card holders can contact their nearest post office to avail of this service. This initiative is a significant step towards Digital India and accessible administration, ensuring that the elderly, Divyangjan, sick persons, and women receive comfortable and dignified services at their homes through technology.
