Water Supply Disruption in Parts of Ahmedabad Due to Shedhi Canal Repairs

Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has announced that some areas in the East and South zones of the city will face water supply disruptions this evening and tomorrow morning due to ongoing repair work at the gates of the Shedhi Canal.

In a press release, the civic body stated that under the Pre-Monsoon Action Plan, the Irrigation Department closed the Shedhi Canal on June 3, 2025, for gate repairs. As a result, the water level in the canal near the Raska Water Treatment Plant, operated by AMC, dropped significantly. This caused a reduced supply of raw water (RO water) to the plant. Due to limited water availability, only one pump was operated at the Raska plant instead of the usual two. As the water level continued to decline this morning, pumping operations were completely halted at 12:15 PM.

To address the shortage, an additional pump was activated at Kotarpur, which is expected to partially compensate for the disrupted supply from Raska.

Due to the shutdown of the Raska plant, water shortages will affect distribution stations in the following areas:

  • Eastern Zone: Vastral Ward, Ramol-Hathijan Ward

  • Southern Zone: Vatva, Lambha, and Isanpur Wards

No water supply will be provided in these areas this evening, and tomorrow morning’s supply will depend on the available water stock.

According to the Nadiad Irrigation Department, water has been released from the Wanakbori Dam into the canal system. It is expected to reach the Raska Water Treatment Plant by this evening, after which pumping operations can resume. DeshGujarat
