Water to Flow in Sabarmati River Ahmedabad from June 5
June 04, 2025
Ahmedabad: After remaining dry and devoid of water for the past few weeks, the Sabarmati River will begin flowing with water again starting tomorrow, June 5th.
The river was emptied last month to facilitate pre-monsoon repair work at the Vasna Barrage. During this period, a large-scale cleanliness drive was carried out along the Sabarmati Riverfront, resulting in the removal of thousands of tons of gravel and garbage from the riverfront.
Now that the repair work and the cleaning drive are scheduled to be completed tomorrow, water will be released into the river from the upstream Narmada Canal. Ahmedabad Mayor Pratibha Jain shared the update, stating, “The Sabarmati riverfront cleaning drive will conclude on June 5, after which the river will be filled with water. The Jal Yatra of Bhagwan Jagannath, ahead of the Rath Yatra, will also take place soon, and AMC has made the necessary preparations for it.”
The river was emptied around May 12, after which the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and the Sabarmati Riverfront Development Corporation Limited (SRFDCL) undertook the task of cleaning the riverbed. This effort, which began on May 15, involved widespread public participation, with thousands of citizens and volunteers from environmental organizations joining the initiative. DeshGujarat
