₹7.30 Crore MGNREGA Scam Unearthed in Three Talukas of Bharuch
June 05, 2025
Bharuch: A major financial scam has come to light in Bharuch district involving road construction works under the MGNREGA scheme in the Hansot, Jambusar, and Amod talukas. A complaint has been filed at the A-Division Police Station, alleging that two Veraval-based agencies — Murlidhar Enterprise and Jalaram Enterprise — embezzled ₹7.30 crore during the execution of these projects.
Following the exposure of a similar scam in Dahod district, this revelation has triggered a stir in Bharuch. According to the complaint, the two firms carried out road construction projects in 56 villages across the three talukas and misappropriated funds amounting to ₹7.30 crore. Police have launched a phase-wise inquiry into the allegations.
Sources suggest panic has gripped those involved, with several individuals reportedly rushing to secure anticipatory bail to avoid arrest. There are also reports that political leaders who allegedly backed the scam at the time are now attempting to use their influence to shield the accused.
Police have initiated the process of summoning Talati-cum-Mantris (village revenue officers) from all three talukas. Additionally, statements are being recorded from individuals who signed off as witnesses in the official panchanama (inspection reports) prepared after the completion of the road works.
Authorities are also investigating whether officials who claimed to inspect the projects actually visited the sites. Bills submitted by both agencies were supported by records indicating periodic inspections. However, there is growing suspicion that some officials may have falsely logged site visits while remaining in their offices.
Verification of logbooks maintained by government officers and staff is now underway. As the investigation continues, more revelations are expected. DeshGujarat
