Ahmedabad: To capitalize on the growing demand for solar modules in the United States, Gujarat-based Kosol Energie Pvt Ltd is planning to invest ₹300 crore to establish a 2-gigawatt (GW) solar module manufacturing facility in the US.
According to a report by The Hindu Business Line, Kalpesh Kalthia, Chairman and Managing Director of the company, stated that with US President Donald Trump emphasizing local manufacturing, the company has finalized a site for its 2 GW plant with a ₹300 crore investment. “Having operated in the US hospitality sector since 1991, we’re well-acquainted with the market,” he said. Kosol Energie currently operates a 3.1 GW solar module manufacturing plant in Bavla, near Ahmedabad, which primarily exports to the US.
The Kalthia Group also owns and operates a private hotel management firm based in San Diego, California, managing top-tier brands including Hilton, Hampton Inn, InterContinental, Marriott, and Wyndham.
According to the report, the company is awaiting the outcome of the US administration’s tariff decision once the current 90-day pause ends in July. They have secured land and a building but will disclose the location only after clarity on tariffs is received.
Furthermore, Kosol is also expanding its Bavla plant by an additional 3 GW with a ₹250 crore investment, aiming to reach a total capacity of 6.1 GW. The company currently sources its solar cells from China and Indonesia.
