13 ARTOs in Gujarat Get Full RTO Status
June 11, 2025
Gandhinagar: In a major administrative development, 13 Assistant Regional Transport Offices (ARTOs) across Gujarat have now been upgraded to full-fledged Regional Transport Offices (RTOs). The upgraded offices include Vastral, Gandhinagar, and Bavla ARTOs, which previously functioned under the Ahmedabad Subhash Bridge RTO. Other newly designated RTOs are located in Anjar, Anand, Bharuch, Morbi, Surendranagar, Patan, Dahod, Navsari, Bardoli, and Amreli.
With this move, the total number of operational RTOs in the state has increased from 14 to 28, while the number of ARTO offices has been reduced from 23 to 9. This administrative restructuring aims to strengthen the transport framework across Gujarat. Notably, the Surat Rural and Vadodara Rural ARTO offices remain non-functional.
Officials noted that all newly upgraded RTOs are currently being managed by in-charge officers, and no immediate changes will be made to the administrative workflow. However, the upgrade is expected to enhance service delivery and expand departmental capacity.
Meanwhile, it is learnt that a wave of promotions is on the horizon. As per the information, 40 Inspectors of Motor Vehicles (IMVs) are likely to be promoted to ARTOs, and 18 ARTOs are in line for promotion to RTOs. The changes are expected to be formally announced soon. DeshGujarat
