Video of Gambling Inside AMC Muster Station Goes Viral; Four Employees Suspended

Ahmedabad: A gambling den was busted inside the Muster Station of the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) near Rangila Chowki in the Shahpur area. Corporator Sheikh Samika Martin recorded a video of employees gambling inside the locked municipal office and circulated it on social media, triggering public outrage and swift administrative action.

The Deputy Municipal Commissioner of the Central Zone initiated an inquiry. The probe revealed that the individuals involved were employees from AMC’s Engineering Department’s Machine Hall. All four have been suspended with immediate effect, while one more was found to be employed on a contractual basis.

In an official statement, the AMC said, “A video of card gambling with money during office hours at the Rangeela Muster Station—Machine Hall Department office in the central zone of Dariapur ward of the Amdavad Municipal Corporation went viral on social media. The Municipal Corporation identified the individuals in the video and confirmed that four of them were municipal employees. These employees—(1) Gopalbhai Kanjibhai (Machine Hall Worker), (2) Jitendrabhai Arvindbhai (Machine Hall Worker), (3) Sohanbhai Motibhai (Machine Hall Worker), and (4) Jagdishbhai Bhikhabhai (Machine Hall Worker)—have been suspended from their duties, and a departmental inquiry has been initiated against them.”

Corporator Sheikh Samika Martin brought the issue to light, raising serious concerns about misconduct within municipal facilities. The incident has sparked public debate over the misuse of public offices, funded by taxpayers, for illegal activities.

The AMC has also stated that the contract of the company employing the private worker will be terminated. DeshGujarat
