Air India Flight Crash: Another Body Found in Plane’s Tail; DNA Testing Underway, 192 Ambulances on Standby

Ahmedabad: The Air India flight crash has claimed over 250 lives, and families of the deceased are still waiting for formal identification of the bodies as the DNA testing process continues. The process of handing over bodies began yesterday, with five bodies handed over to their relatives after successful DNA identification.

To facilitate the transfer of the deceased, 192 ambulances and hearses have been placed on standby today, with drivers instructed to remain on alert.

Meanwhile, another body was recovered today from the tail section of the aircraft as rescue teams continued clearing the wreckage. The Ahmedabad Fire Brigade used specialized rescue equipment to cut through the debris and retrieve the body of a young woman, suspected to be an air hostess. The body has been sent for postmortem and DNA identification.

So far, over 250 DNA samples have been collected, and reports indicate that postmortems have been conducted on 270 bodies.

On June 12, at 1:38 PM, Air India Flight No. 171 took off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad, bound for London. Just two minutes after takeoff, at 1:40 PM, the aircraft crashed in Meghaninagar, near the IGP compound.

The flight was carrying 242 people, including former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, 169 Indian nationals, 53 British citizens, 7 Portuguese nationals, and 1 Canadian citizen.
