Bhavnagar: With the advancement of the monsoon in Gujarat, Bhavnagar and Amreli districts were lashed by extremely heavy rainfall on Monday. According to data released by the State Emergency Operation Center, Palitana taluka in Bhavnagar district recorded the highest rainfall in the state between 6 am and 8 pm, receiving 11.26 inches of rain.

Apart from Palitana, four other talukas also experienced extremely heavy rainfall: Jesar (10.47 inches), Sihor (10.08 inches), and Mahuva (8.86 inches) — all in Bhavnagar — and Savarkundla (9.09 inches) in Amreli.

As per the data, over 195 talukas received rainfall during the 14-hour period since 6 am today. Of these, 62 talukas recorded over 1 inch of rain, while more than 25 talukas received over 2 inches. Among the top 10 talukas were Rajula, Amreli, Gariadhar, Umrala, and Liliya — all recording rainfall of over 4.5 inches.

According to the latest data, heavy rain also lashed Botad district, with Gadhada taluka receiving 3.8 inches of rain in just two hours between 6 pm and 8 pm. During the same period, Botad taluka itself received over 3 inches of rain. Olpad in Surat was also lashed in the evening, receiving 2.5 inches of rain.

In the latest development, a thunderstorm accompanied lashed parts of Ahmedabad post 6 pm. Areas including Sabarmati, Subhash Bridge, Motera, Chandkheda, SG Highway, Gota, Jagatpur, Zundal, and Shahibaug are experiencing heavy downpours. Vastrapur, Memnagar, Helmet Circle, and Judges Bungalow areas are also receiving intense rainfall. Rain has also been reported in Naroda, Nikol, Odhav, Vastral, Gomtipur, Narol, Lambha, Vatva, Maninagar, Isanpur, Jamalpur, Lal Darwaja, Shahpur, Ramol, and Delhi Darwaja areas.

The intense downpour over a short span has led to waterlogging across parts of Saurashtra, particularly in Bhavnagar, Amreli, and Junagadh. Rivers in the region are also in spate.

In Liliya taluka of Amreli, an ST bus traveling from Amreli to Gariyadhar got stuck in floodwaters at Bhorigada village, where a temporary diversion had been created due to ongoing causeway construction. Fortunately, all passengers were rescued safely. With the heavy rain, the road from Mahuva to Talgajarda village has been cut off, with the water level reaching waist level. In Talgajarda, around 30 students of Suryodaya Vidhyalaya are stuck in the school, and the administration is carrying out the rescue of the students one by one.

Chhota Udaipur district also reported widespread rain. In Bodeli taluka, heavy showers at Raj Bodeli led to waterlogging on roads after just half an hour of continuous rain.

In Ahmedabad, after 3 pm, eastern localities such as Ramol, Vastral, Vatva, Odhav, Narol, Kathwada, and Nikol received rainfall. Areas like Memco, Naroda, Sardarnagar, Airport, and Shahibaug saw light rain, while western parts such as Sabarmati, Chandkheda, Motera, Jodhpur, Bopal, Ghuma, Satellite, Ranip, Ghatlodiya, Chandlodiya, and Gota also experienced light showers.

Meanwhile, in Rajula, about 25 sheep were swept away in strong water currents between Hadmatiya and Devka due to flooding in the Jolapuri river. Locals managed to rescue about 10 of them.

Vavera village in Rajula faced torrential rain, isolating it completely due to rising river levels. Two individuals trapped at the Hanumanji temple due to flooding in the Ghano river were later rescued by villagers.

In Bhavnagar, a causeway connecting the Budhana-Palitana highway in Sihor was washed away due to the heavy rain. In Palitana, waterlogging occurred in Sonpari village due to illegal encroachment, and the locals have demanded that the encroachments be removed as they caused issues for the local hospital.

In Junagadh city, a school bus got stuck on waterlogged roads at Sheetal Nagar in the Madhuram area. Parents expressed concern about the poor road conditions and urged the local corporator to expedite road construction. DeshGujarat
