Ahmedabad top cop attends high-level committee meet to probe Air India crash

New Delhi: The first meeting of the high-level committee formed by the Central government to investigate the recent Air India plane crash was held in New Delhi on Monday. Ahmedabad Police Commissioner G.S. Malik, a member of the committee, attended the meeting after flying to Delhi earlier in the day. The committee is chaired by Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan.

The multi-disciplinary panel includes the Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, senior officials from the Union Home Ministry, representatives from Gujarat’s Home Department and State Disaster Response Authority, the Director General of Inspection and Safety of the Indian Air Force, and the Director General of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security.

The committee is expected to submit its findings within three months, with a primary focus on developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to prevent such incidents in the future. Meanwhile, a separate technical investigation is being conducted by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB).

The crash involved an Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner operating a flight from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, which went down shortly after takeoff on Thursday. Of the 242 people on board, only one survived. DeshGujarat
