NSUI protests against GCAS portal glitches, demands return to old admission system
June 18, 2025
Ahmedabad: Amid the ongoing centralised admission process through the Gujarat Common Admission System (GCAS) portal, the NSUI, the student wing of the Congress party, today claimed that the portal has become a source of frustration for thousands of students.
NSUI members submitted a memorandum to the Vice Chancellor of Gujarat University, highlighting the widespread problems caused by the portal and warning of an intense agitation if the issue remains unresolved.
NSUI leader Vikramsinh Gohil alleged that the GCAS portal has completely failed. “Only 15,000 seats have been filled out of the 65,000 available in Gujarat University. Students from rural areas are especially affected, as they are unable to complete the admission process due to technical issues,” he said.
The student body has demanded an immediate return to the previous offline admission system. They suggested that while the GCAS form can be filled online, the actual admission process should be handled directly by the universities. NSUI also urged the Vice Chancellor, Dr. Neerja Gupta, to formally approach the government to rectify the flaws in the GCAS portal.
A major concern raised was that even after the second round of admissions, thousands of students—including those scoring over 90 percent—have not been allotted colleges. The NSUI member stated that unless swift action is taken, Gujarat University risks losing a large number of eligible students to private institutions, thereby undermining its own credibility.
