Southwest monsoon 2025 covers entire Gujarat in just 3 days

Gandhinagar: The Southwest Monsoon 2025 has covered the entire state of Gujarat today. What is interesting this year is that the monsoon took only three days to cover the whole state.

The monsoon, which made its onset in South Gujarat on June 16, one day later than the usual date of advancement, moved ahead on June 17, covering Saurashtra, Central, and South Gujarat regions entirely. Progressing rapidly, it covered the remaining parts of North Gujarat and Kutch regions today.

“Southwest Monsoon has further advanced over some more parts of the North Arabian Sea, remaining parts of Gujarat, some parts of Rajasthan, some more parts of Madhya Pradesh, some parts of East Uttar Pradesh, remaining parts of Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand, and some more parts of Bihar. Thus, Southwest Monsoon has covered the entire Gujarat State today, the 18th June 2025,” said the IMD in its latest bulletin.

The Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) continues to pass through 25.0°N/60°E, 25.0°N/65°E, 25.5°N/70°E, Barmer, Jodhpur, Jaipur, Gwalior, Khajuraho, Subhadra, Gaya, and 30.5°N/82.5°E, it further stated.

Notably, last year the monsoon had taken around 17 days to cover the entire state — making its onset on June 10 and covering all of Gujarat only by June 27.

The IMD further stated that conditions are favourable for further advancement of the Southwest Monsoon over the remaining parts of the North Arabian Sea, more parts of Rajasthan, remaining parts of Madhya Pradesh, more parts of Uttar Pradesh, and remaining parts of Bihar, as well as some parts of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir–Ladakh–Gilgit–Baltistan–Muzaffarabad during the next 2–3 days.

Meanwhile, a low-pressure area over the Gujarat region and neighbourhood now lies over central parts of Rajasthan as of 08:30 IST today, June 18, 2025. The associated upper air cyclonic circulation extends up to 5.8 km above mean sea level, tilting southwards with height.
A trough also runs from Punjab to North Gujarat across the above cyclonic circulation over central Rajasthan between 3.1 and 5.8 km above mean sea level.

Yesterday’s trough from the cyclonic circulation associated with the low-pressure area over Gujarat and its neighbourhood extending to Jharkhand via Madhya Pradesh and North Chhattisgarh at 0.9 km above mean sea level has become less marked. DeshGujarat
